I investigated a sacred forest rumored to be haunted by spirits that scared away locals and Mongols alike. Hiding in tall grass, I quietly eliminated a group of bandits who were using the myth to occupy the woods. After clearing the camp, I returned to the traveler to share the true story.
Moving through the dark woods, I spotted torches moving through the trees ahead and immediately dropped into the tall grass to stay hidden. Watching their patrol routes, I realized the figures were actually common bandits.
This group had been occupying the sacred forest for a long time, scaring off locals and keeping even the Mongol forces away by spreading rumors that the area was haunted.
With the truth revealed about who the "spirits" really were, I began clearing the area.
I crept up behind the first torchbearer and took him down silently with a quick assassination.
The rest of the camp remained completely unaware of my presence. Still crouched low, I moved toward a second guard carrying a torch and executed him quietly as well.
With only a few bandits left, I tossed a sticky bomb directly at one of the remaining targets. The initial blast didn't kill him outright, so I leaped from a nearby high point and finished him with an aerial strike.
The rest of the camp finally realized they were under attack and tried to fight back, but their disorganized strikes were no match for Jin. I cut them down one by one.
As the fight wound down, an enemy archer lost his nerve, backed away in fear, and tried to flee, shouting that the legends about the samurai returning were true. Rather than letting him escape, I chased him down and slit his throat to ensure none of the group survived.
With the bandits wiped out, the fake ghost sightings were put to rest. Even so, the thick trees and dark atmosphere still kept a creepy vibe alive in the woods.
I ran back to the traveler who had been telling people stories about the haunted forest. He was stunned to see Jin walk out of the woods completely unharmed.
Jin told him there was a new tale to share, one about murderous bandits occupying the sacred forest until the last warrior of Clan Sakai heard the cries of the woods and wiped out the killers.
The peasant smiled, noting it was a great story that made it sound as if the spirits themselves had summoned Jin to save the land. With the quest complete, I received the Charm of Dual Destruction as a reward.
