Jin waited until midnight to start the quest "Whispers in the Woods" in Yagata Forest. Surrounded by eerie sounds, I uncovered an abandoned hut, broken street lamps, and multiple beheaded corpses. After investigating a recent campfire and footprints, Jin realized a human killer was staging a ghost story to terrify local peasants.
I began the new quest titled "Whispers in the Woods" as Jin waited until nightfall. Midnight settled over the trees, and Jin noted that after tonight, the local peasants would no longer need to spread rumors about evil spirits in the forest.
My objective was to search for the supposed spirits residing deep within Yagata Forest. As I walked forward through the darkness, unnerving background noises echoed around me. The unsettling audio design actually managed to creep me out, sending a cold chill down my spine as the whispers and voices grew louder.
Passing two bodies hanging ominously from the branches, I spotted a small house further down the path. I approached the structure and found its front door broken wide open.
Inside, the abandoned house contained a scroll detailing the legend of Yagata Forest. The text claimed that every tree represented the spirit of a fallen samurai who died protecting the island, questioning whether the whispering sounds were cries of pain or warnings of impending danger.
Leaving the house behind, I continued navigating the dark woods by following a line of stone street lamps. Creepy noises continued to fill the air.
I eventually stumbled upon a broken, unlit lamp with a decapitated body resting underneath. Jin examined the corpse, concluding that the person was likely executed while attempting to flee from an attacker.
Pushing deeper into the jungle, I found two more beheaded bodies lying near an abandoned campsite. Inspecting the wounds revealed that the cuts were made with a fine blade, but delivered by an unskilled hand, leading Jin to confirm that a human murderer was responsible rather than supernatural spirits.
I climbed to higher ground and spotted a glowing campfire in the distance. I sneaked toward the camp, expecting to find the killer, but discovered only more beheaded victims alongside fish still roasting over the fire.
Jin noted that the blood was fresh, meaning the killer remained nearby. I quickly picked up a set of fresh footprints leading away from the camp.
Following the tracking trail, I passed numerous decapitated bodies hung from individual trees, as well as a wooden cart piled with dead samurai.
Recognizing that the scene had been deliberately staged to scare people away from the forest, I pressed on to catch the culprit.
