ENGLISH VERSION
The true talisman
Today has been a good day. I arrived home, let myself sink into the armchair, and mentally took stock of the day: all my patients showed up for their appointments, and not only that, but I saw in their eyes that glimmer of improvement that moves me so much.
Then I thought about my daughter, who had an important exam today, and when I asked her this afternoon how it went, her smile answered for her. And my parents, what a blessing to be able to say they are well, that they remain steady, and that health is on their side.
With that peace settled in my body, I looked at my wrist and there it was: my bracelet of worn-out beads, one I bought at a flea market years ago with no other intention than to adorn, but which over time has become something more. Then I caressed my red necklace, the one I wear close to my skin on important days, and I laughed to myself. Could they be the ones to blame for the day going well?
It is curious how we function. When something goes right, we look for anchors and need an object, a ritual to cling to in order to explain the inexplicable, and when it goes wrong, we do the same: "it is because I was not wearing the bracelet," "it is because my necklace fell off," "it is because I did not follow my routine today." We cling to magic like children making a wish before blowing out the candles, and that is not wrong because it is human.
But as my fingers brushed those beads, I had a silent conversation with myself and realized that, deep down, I do not believe it is the bracelet or the necklace or the alignment of the planets. What truly made today a good day is in my mind and in the way I decided to wake up this morning.
I chose to get up with the intention of seeing the good and looking at my patients and seeing their potential, not their limitations. I also chose to trust my daughter and give her free rein, instead of suffocating her with my anxiety.
Luck is not a meteorite that falls from the sky, but a seed that I water every day with my thoughts, my words, and my gestures. When I think positively, it is not because I am avoiding reality, but because I am choosing to focus on what I can build, rather than obsessing over what might collapse.
Today I have understood that the true amulet is not bought, not inherited, not found at a flea market, but rather it is the gaze I choose to place upon my life and the certainty that, no matter what happens, I have the resources to face it.
Good luck, in the end, is nothing more than the reward of a mind that has decided not to give up, and that, my friends, is a choice that is within everyone's reach.
