The Echeveria Lady [Eng/Esp]

Published on HivePostify by @neuropoeta · Mon Aug 31 2026

Today I was that person who wakes up with a plan and ends up with hands full of soil, messy hair, and a happiness too big to fit in her chest.

My morning started with a coffee and a fixed gaze on my two Echeverias. The first one, my Echeveria Pallida, had been begging for help for weeks with silent screams, drooping leaves, wilted, tiny… it looked like a shadow of its former self. The second one, my curly Echeveria, was trapped in a pot that didn't do it justice, with a substrate that was more an enemy than a home, and leaves so sparse it was pitiful to look at.

>And there I was, pruning shears in one hand and my heart in the other, ready to do whatever it took.

I emptied the terrace, set out the new substrate, and got everything ready for the big operation. I started with the Pallida, carefully taking it out of its old pot, cleaning its roots like someone untangling a necklace of precious beads. I removed every dry leaf, every bit of old soil, every sign of its suffering. And then, like a miracle between my fingers, the offsets appeared tiny replicas of their mother, shy but full of life, waiting for their chance to grow.

I planted several of them, new opportunities that I placed in pots with the tenderness of someone who knows she is witnessing the beginning of something beautiful.

Then came the turn of the curly Echeveria. Taking it out of that pot was almost an act of liberation, as the roots were cramped, searching for space in a place that didn't give it any. I prepared its new home with a wider pot, good drainage, and a substrate that I mixed with my own hands like someone preparing a secret recipe. I arranged its leaves, and it stood somewhat erect, proud, as if it knew it was in its rightful place.

While I worked, I thought about all the times someone has called me "the plant lady," and I've heard it with affection, with irony, sometimes with misunderstanding. Today, with soil under my nails and the sun warming my neck, I understood that that title fits me like a glove.

This is not just planting; it's caring, observing, and learning to read the silent language of leaves, and also knowing when a plant needs more light, less water, and a change of scenery.

When I finished, I watered gently, cleaned every pot, and placed them in their new spot. The Pallida will grow, as if grateful for the gesture, and the curly one, in its new pot, will spread its leaves with a confidence it didn't have before. The offsets, tiny green dots on the soil, are promises of the future.

I washed my hands, but the soil remained etched in the lines of my palms like a tattoo of today. And I know that tomorrow I will look at them again, talk to them, ask them how they are. Yes, I have been the plant lady once more. 💚 💚

💚 💚
