When I first became interested in cryptocurrency, I was fascinated by how quickly prices could move. I saw people making huge profits, and naturally, I wanted to understand how I could also benefit from the market.

But one thing my mentor told me changed the way I look at cryptocurrency.

He said, “You need to understand that the crypto market is heavily manipulated.”

At first, I didn't completely understand what he meant. I thought trading was simply about studying charts, identifying patterns, entering a trade and waiting for the market to move in my direction.

But with time, I began to understand his warning.

Cryptocurrency is a market driven by many factors—large investors, market sentiment, news, liquidity, fear, greed and, sometimes, the actions of people with enough capital to influence price movements.

A coin can look bullish, only for the price to suddenly drop. A support level can appear strong, only for the market to break it, trigger people's stop losses and then reverse.

This is why my mentor warned me not to approach cryptocurrency with the mindset that every chart pattern must work.

He taught me that risk management is just as important as technical analysis.

I have also learned that one of the biggest mistakes a trader can make is believing that every price movement is an opportunity to make money. Sometimes, the best trade is the one I don't take.

I don't believe cryptocurrency is necessarily a scam or that nobody can make legitimate money from it. Rather, I have learned to approach it with caution and discipline.

For me, the lesson is simple:

Don't enter the crypto market because of greed. Don't trade because someone posted a screenshot of their profit. And don't risk money you cannot afford to lose.

Before I put my money into any cryptocurrency, I want to understand what I am doing, manage my risk and accept that the market can move against me.

My mentor's warning has stayed with me:

“The market doesn't owe you a profit.”

And I think every person entering cryptocurrency needs to understand that.
