Hello dear Holos & Lotus community,
Today I continue with The House Also Speaks, a series where the simplest objects in our homes quietly tell us things about memory, time, family, and the parts of ourselves that we sometimes leave behind.

The House Also Speaks #15 -------------------------
The Wall Clock That Ran Out of Batteries
There is a clock on the wall of my home that stopped working months ago.
Its hands remained fixed at the exact same time.
At first, I thought I would replace the battery soon.
Then one day passed.
Then another.
And somehow, that little task kept being postponed.
Now the clock has become part of the room exactly as it is.
Sometimes I walk past it and look up without thinking.
For a brief second, I read the hands as if they were still telling me the time.
Then I remember.
The clock stopped months ago.
It is a strange thing, this habit of trusting our eyes before our memory catches up.
That clock has been telling the same time for so long that I sometimes wonder how many people in this house have looked at it without realizing that it no longer works.
Perhaps that is what happens with some things in life.
We continue looking at them out of habit, even when we already know they stopped moving a long time ago.
A clock can remain stopped at one particular hour.
And sometimes, without realizing it, we do the same with ourselves.
There are moments in life that seem to freeze time.
A phone call.
A diagnosis.
A goodbye.
The loss of someone we love.
A relationship that ended unexpectedly.
A piece of news that changed everything.
Before that moment, life was moving in one direction.
After it, something inside us remains standing there.
The rest of the world continues.
People go to work.
Children grow.
Birthdays arrive.
The seasons change.
Everyone seems to keep moving forward.
But somewhere inside us, there is a little clock whose hands are still pointing to that particular hour.
Sometimes we don't even notice it.
We simply learn to live around it.
We continue doing what needs to be done.
We smile.
We cook.
We work.
We take care of the family.
We make plans.
But there may still be a small part of us waiting in that old moment.
I think that is one of the strange things about grief and pain.
They do not always stop our lives completely.
