Hello dear Holos & Lotus community,
Today I continue with The House Also Speaks, a series where the simplest objects in our homes become witnesses to our routines, memories, affections, and the passage of time.

The House Also Speaks #17 -------------------------
The Favorite Cup with the Chipped Rim
There is a cup in my kitchen that I probably should have thrown away a long time ago.
It has a small chip on the rim.
Nothing dramatic.
Just a little piece missing from the edge, the kind of damage that makes a new cup look old and a loved cup look even more familiar.
Every morning, I still choose it.
There are other cups in the cupboard.
Some are newer.
Some are prettier.
Some have no cracks, no stains, and no damaged edges.
But when I open the cupboard in the morning, my hand almost always reaches for the same one.
Perhaps that is one of those habits we acquire without realizing it.
I know exactly where to place my lips so I don't catch the chipped edge.
I don't even have to think about it anymore.
My hand already knows.
Sometimes I smile when I notice this.
There are objects we learn to handle according to their imperfections.
We know which drawer sticks.
Which door needs to be pushed a little harder.
Which chair makes a strange sound.
Which pot has a loose handle.
We don't necessarily throw them away.
We simply learn how to live with them.
And perhaps people are a little like that too.
Over time, we learn the delicate places of the people we love.
We know which subjects hurt them.
Which words they take more seriously.
When they need company and when they need silence.
We learn their fears, their insecurities, their little wounds.
And knowing those things does not necessarily make us love them less.
Sometimes it makes us love them more carefully.
I think that is one of the quietest forms of love.
Not demanding that someone be perfect before we can love them.
But learning how to hold them without pressing on the places that hurt.
The same thing happens with ourselves.
There are parts of us that have become worn by life.
Things we wish had happened differently.
Mistakes we still remember.
Disappointments that left marks.
Years that changed our bodies and our way of looking at ourselves.
Sometimes we look in the mirror and notice everything that time has changed.
The wrinkles.
The tiredness.
The scars.
The things that no longer look like they did when we were younger.
