The House Also Speaks #14 -------------------------
The Window That Trembles When a Truck Passes
There is a window in my home that has its own particular way of announcing when something is passing outside.
It is an old window.
One of those that has already lived through many years, many seasons, and many changes.
Most of the time it stays quiet, doing its job without asking for attention.
But when a heavy truck passes along the street, everything changes.
The glass begins to tremble.
A small but noticeable vibration fills the room.
At first, many years ago, it startled me.
That sudden sound made me look around, wondering what had happened.
Later, I learned to recognize it.
I knew that it was only the truck passing.
I knew that, after a few seconds, everything would return to normal.
Still, every now and then, that vibration reminds me that the outside world is always present.
Sometimes, when the noise becomes too strong, we look for a way to calm it down.
A small piece of cardboard.
A folded piece of paper.
A simple solution to reduce the movement and the sound.
It is nothing complicated.
Just a small adjustment that makes the house feel peaceful again.
While doing that one day, I thought about how similar we can be to that window.
We also live surrounded by outside noise.
Some noises come from the street.
Others arrive through conversations, news, worries, and the problems that affect those we love.
Even when we are inside our own refuge, the world continues moving around us.
And sometimes, without realizing it, we begin to tremble.
We worry.
We lose sleep.
We carry concerns that were never meant to stay inside our hearts for so long.
That does not mean we are weak.
A window that vibrates is not a useless window.
It is simply a window that feels the force of what happens outside.
Perhaps people are the same.
Being affected by life does not mean we have failed.
It means we are alive.
The important thing is learning how to strengthen our own frames.
Just as a window needs attention when it begins to move too much, our inner world also needs care.
Sometimes we need rest.
Sometimes we need silence.
Sometimes we need to speak with someone instead of pretending everything is fine.
The window has taught me that we cannot stop every truck that passes outside.
We cannot control every problem, every opinion, or every storm that arrives.
But we can take care of our own structure.
We can repair our cracks.
We can adjust what needs adjusting.
