The next morning after the passage to Snake Island, when riding into dock on the tender, it was brought to my attention that it was the last day of weekly tender service. Going forward, it would be running only on the weekends.
This brought a shiver to me. My dingy oars had gone misplaced at the East River Shipyard last winter and my kayak paddle substitutes made trips to dock to only be considered on fairly calm days.

Once ashore the Marina's manager was consulted if he might have a mooring available a little closer to the dock. He could not have done me better by offering me mooring ball #1 where one could swim if not spit to the dock.

Rather than move Makina down that day it was decided to wait for the mild wind of today. So bright and early, even before the Marina office opened, Makina slowly moved to her new location.
Made it to the shower under my own steam with some kayak dingy paddling; no more a slave to the tender's schedule.
It was my good fortune to run into Andrie and Michelle. They are owners of a Cabot-36 as well. After getting photos of my rudder from Hugh, who did my survey of Makina pre-purchase, the theory that a bushing was not reinstalled after rudder rebuilds from last winter was busted. No bushing in sight.
It had crossed my mind that the slight rise in the rudder shaft, when turning, may be the norm for Cabot-36's. Andrie agreed to compare things on his boat and get back to me about it.
Had a little text exchange with DJ, the tech doing my radar installs. The unit is presently on the bench in Halifax at the Binnacle. Nothing to do but wait on that one.
After talking to Andrie and Michelle and soured by a couple of experiences with East River Shipyard, the Gold River Marina is sounding attractive. The plan is to sail over to pick up more diesel if possible and check it out. Tomorrow may be a good day for such a passage with 17km/h winds by 9:00.
Feeling satisfied with the day's accomplishments, it was decided to over medicate and dig deeper into the fantasy series on my reading list at the moment.

At least in the northern climes it makes some sense to me that Sep. 1st should mark the new year. Things like kids going back to school and a change in the season have a much stronger feel of turning a page; as compared to the generally non-descript winter stormy day of Jan. 1st.
So with that thought in mind allow me to wish you festive Sept. 1st and a Happy New Year!
