hello hive community, its @nursejoe please take your time to read about how ny cat got me a promotion.
First i will be introducing you to my cat, My cat Barnaby is a massive, lazy orange chunk of a thing. He honestly only cares about two things in this world: finding the warmest spot in the house to sleep on, and eating expensive salmon food. He doesn't care about politics, he doesn't care if am broke, and he definitely doesn't care that I work from home.
To Barnaby, my laptop keyboard is just a personal insult. He thinks it’s a glowing heater meant for his naps, and my hands are just awkwardly in his way.Anyway, this whole mess of a thing happened on Thursday.I had this massive online meeting with the big corporate bosses from abuja, lagos, and ibadan. I’d been stressing over this for weeks.
I actually wear on my nice shirt and tie for once, though I was totally still wearing my plaid pajama pants under the desk as usual because its just a zoom meeting nobody will see the under."Barnaby, please just be cool today," I told him, putyin in a bunch of sweet cat food into his bowl. "Daddy needs this promotion so we can afford your lifestyle."He didn't even look at me.I sat down, turned on my webcam, and joined the call. Suddenly, 14 serious faces filled my screen.
A few minutes in, I stood up to grab my coffee cup from the counter. That was my first mistake. Never leave an open keyboard around an orange cat.The second my butt left the chair, Barnaby saw his moment. He went over, hopped onto the desk, and put on his entire twelve-pound body right onto the keys.Immediately, chaos. His left paw mashed the mute button. His heavy belly held down the shift key, and his tail started rapid firing the spacebar. Before I could even reach him, he opened a chat window and sent a message to the entire national executive team:qqqqqqqqqqwerty;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;I froze, panicking hard. "Barnaby! No! Get down!" I hissed, trying not to scream. But he was already too comfortable.
When I reached out to scoop him up, he gave me a warning swat. His paw slapped the trackpad, clicked a random setting, and changed my video background. Out of nowhere, this super serious international business meeting was framed by giant, flashing pink neon hearts. The main boss from London cleared his throat. "Joseph? Is there a reason your presentation has turned into a valentine, and why you are typing in tongues?"I completely panicked.
I tried to throw the laptop away, but Barnaby dug his claws into the desk. He rolled onto his back, stretching his legs out. That movement triggered the computer’s text-to-speech feature.Suddenly, this loud, robotic voice started reading whatever his body was pressing: "Spacebar. Spacebar. Delete. Period. Nine. Nine. Nine. Meow."The bosses just stared. The guy from abuja looked like his brain had short-circuited.
"Get off!" I yelled. I totally forgot that Barnaby had unmuted me again when he rolled over."I am trying to get off," the robotic computer voice answered back, reading some random text from an open browser tab. Then Barnaby decided he wanted to be the star of the show. He stood up, walked right up to the webcam, and just stared into it. His giant, pink nose filled the entire screen for 14 corporate executives. He let out this massive, slow yawn, and then literally licked the camera lens, turning my entire video feed into a blurry. I finally managed to grab him around the middle and lift him up. But as I pulled him away, his back leg caught the power cord, removed it straight out of the wall. My battery was dead, so the whole computer just instantly shut off.Black screen. Absolute silence.I just sat there in my kitchen, staring at the dead laptop. Barnaby casually walked over to his bowl, ate two crunchies, and started grooming his leg like he hadn't just ruined my life.
I barely slept that night. The next morning, I walked into the office building completely ready to get fired. I went straight to my manager's office with my head down."Joseph, he said, looking up from his desk. About yesterday's meeting. I am so incredibly sorry," I blurted out. My cat—""Your cat is a genius, my manager interrupted, laughing. "The big boss in ibadan thought it was some kind of wild marketing stunt for our new user-interface. He loved it! He said it was the first time in ten years he didn't fall asleep during a quarterly report. You got the promotion."I just blinked. "Wait... seriously?""Yes! But on one condition," my manager smiled. "The cat has to be on the next call, too.
"I walked home, bought the biggest, most expensive can of salmon I could find, and put it in front of Barnaby. He sniffed it,, and immediately went to sleep right on top of my new promotion paperwork.
Barnaby saved the day.
The story was generated by me after long thinking and research
