Blockchain is finally getting the customers everyone said it needed. 🧡 And ironically... They are banks.
Wells Fargo is preparing tokenized deposits for corporate clients. JPMorgan’s Kinexys network is already processing billions of dollars every day. Citigroup is building similar infrastructure. DTCC, which sits at the heart of US securities settlement, is moving tokenized securities into live production. BlackRock keeps expanding its tokenized fund offering.
For years, people kept asking: “What is blockchain actually useful for?” The answer is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.
Tokenized deposits. Tokenized securities. Settlement. Collateral. Treasury management. 24/7 financial infrastructure.
Not exactly the revolution some imagined in 2017. But definitely not a failed technology either.
And maybe that tells us something important about where the industry is today.
There are roughly three types of people in crypto.
The first want to completely redesign society around decentralised systems. The second mainly want their tokens to go up.
And then there are the third ones. The builders.
The people asking:
How do we make this useful? How do we integrate it? How do we make it work for businesses? How do we remove friction? How do we turn an idea into infrastructure people actually use?
Those people might be entering the most interesting phase of blockchain yet.
Because the technology is increasingly moving away from demos and into production. And once infrastructure reaches that stage, the conversation changes.
It stops being: "Will blockchain be adopted?" and becomes: "Who will build on top of it?"
Will every implementation be perfectly decentralised? Probably not. Will that disappoint some early believers? Probably.
But adoption rarely arrives exactly as ideology imagined it. The internet didn’t either.
What matters now is that companies with trillions in assets are spending real money, committing real teams and putting real transactions on blockchain rails.
That is not hype. That is a market.
And if you happen to be type 3...
If you like building, experimenting, implementing, questioning and turning blockchain into something people can actually use...
Well... Come join OffChain Luxembourg. 😉🧡 You’ll probably feel pretty comfortable around our table!
