I reinstalled extensions in Brave: solutions and step-by-step guide ===================================================================

These past few days I've run into one of those minor problems that end up interrupting my computer routine more than expected 😅. I wanted to install some extensions in Brave from the Chrome Web Store, but the installation button wasn't working properly, or the process simply wouldn't complete.

For those of us who use the browser as a work tool, these extensions are often essential: password managers, writing assistants, ad blockers, organizational tools, and other utilities that become part of our daily routine.

After reviewing several alternatives, I found different solutions. Some are quick and can resolve the problem in just a few minutes. Another is more manual, but it serves as a backup plan when the Chrome Web Store continues to give me trouble.

Quick Solutions to Try First ----------------------------

Before getting bogged down with files or advanced settings, it's worth trying these options:

Disable Brave Shields in the Chrome Web Store

Brave includes its own privacy system called Brave Shields. It's very useful for blocking trackers, ads, and other elements, but in some cases, it might interfere with the functionality of certain websites.

To try this alternative:

1. Go to [chromewebstore.google.com](https://chromewebstore.google.com).

2. Click on the Brave lion icon, located in the address bar.

3. Change the protection to Off for that website.

4. Reload the page.

5. Try installing the extension again.

Once the installation is complete, it's best to re-enable the shields to maintain your usual protection while browsing.

Check Extension Permissions

It's also a good idea to check that Brave has enabled the installation of extensions from the Chrome Web Store.

Here are the steps:

1. Type brave://settings/extensions in the address bar.

2. Look for the option related to allowing extensions from the Google Chrome Web Store.

3. Make sure it's enabled.

4. Return to the Chrome Web Store and try downloading the extension again.

Sign Out of Google or Use a Private Window ------------------------------------------

Sometimes the problem can be related to the browser cache, cookies, or your Google account session.

To rule out this possibility:

Sign out of your Google account and try installing the extension again.

Open a private window in Brave.

Visit the Chrome Web Store from that window.

Search for the extension and try downloading it.

If it works in private mode, there's likely some data saved in your regular session that's causing the conflict.

When the Store Still Fails --------------------------

If the installation doesn't work after trying the solutions above, there's a more manual alternative: download the extension file in .crx format and try installing it from the Brave extensions page.

This method requires more care. It's best to download extensions only from trusted sources and verify that it's the correct tool. An extension has access to important parts of the browser, so it's not a good idea to install files from dubious sources.

Manual Installation of a .crx Extension -----------------------------------------

1\. Enable Developer Mode

The first requirement is to enable developer mode in Brave. Without this option enabled, the browser won't allow external extensions to load.

Follow these steps:

1. Open Brave.

2. Type brave://extensions in the address bar.

3. Press Enter.

4. Find the switch labeled Developer Mode.

5. Enable it in the upper right corner.

When you do this, new tools will appear at the top of the screen, including the option to load unzipped extensions.

2\. Copy the extension URL

Now you need to locate the extension in the Chrome Web Store.

1. Go to the Chrome Web Store.

2. Search for the extension you want to download.

3. Open its official page.

4. Copy the complete URL from the address bar.
