Reality of the Face me I face you apartment || An Experience

My old apartment was a single room with a wooden constructed kitchen in front and a general toilet outside. This particular toilet was shared by so many tenants in the compound. The compound was face me I face you. Have you heard of the face me I face you apartment?
Face me I face you apartment which is built in different rooms, the rooms can be lined up in a straight line and then another line of rooms is built facing this other line. There is a general toilet and bathroom situated outside and a bit distanced from these rooms. People take turns to use the toilet and bathroom and most times it brought about quarells as most people could stay in the toilet for over 5 minutes thereby delaying others from passing stool or taking their baths. Every tenant is only entitled to a room and nobody is entitled to more than one room.
How this bathroom and toilet was kept neat, was that a roaster was drawn, which carried the names of all the tenants living there in and everyone knew when to wash theirs weekly. Defaulters would be forced to pay a fine of N1,000 if not a quit notice will be issued with a refund of one’s rent.
Most tenants use woods to construct personal kitchens where they cook their meals and keep their cooking utensils outside their rooms. But very close to them. Most couples also live in this one room apartment and bear even up to five or six children in it. All of them will sleep in that same room, both parents and children.
The face me I face you house is more cheaper than other houses and do not cost much to live in. The only challenge with this houses is that, one does not really have privacy and the compound is always noisy, people are nosy too as fellow neighbors are always interested in the affairs of another neighbor. Also most male neighbors tend to play very loud music throughout the night, thereby disturbing the peaceful sleep of another person.
Inasmuch as everyone is entitled to his or her lifestyle and not judging but I try to wonder how someone will sleep comfortably under the sound of a very loud music. Because it is definitely not my thing at all.
When I was living in this compound, I was a student at the University of Uyo and I was also working at the same time. So, one can imagine how I will be coming back from the hustle and bustle of the day to a place I call my home, and instead of getting a very nice rest in a peaceful and quiet home, I will be back to a loud banging music.
I didn't find this funny although. One day, I knocked on the door of my next door neighbor at about 11:00pm and begged him to turn down the volume of his music as it was really disturbing me and I couldn't get some sleep. He obliged and turned it down, only for his girlfriend to scream at him and increased the volume of the music with a loud threat that I never had the right to tell them the volume with which to use and play their music. I couldn't do anything but overlooked all the tantrums.
Most times some co-tenants will just stand directly outside the house, not in the general bathroom provided and take their baths in the sense that the bath water flows directly to the frontage of your house, thereby inviting lots of mosquitoes, earthworms and centipedes into my house and the house of other neighbors including theirs.
I endured staying at that apartment for many days and was relieved each time my next neighbor travelled to his hometown because I will have some peace at home.
Whenever it was exams period in school, I always went to the school library or the school hall to read for my exams. This was called the night class. There were always so many students who came to read during the night class although some came for other purposes but in all I'm grateful for little experiences and while hoping for better experiences, I will share my next experience.
