The cycle of life || Grandchildren and Preference

Growing old is inevitable as far as life is concerned. In Western Africa, most parents dream of having to see and carry their grandchildren when they get to old age. In some other parts of the world the narrative might not be the same though.
The cycle of life over here most times go like this; two adults are lonely, they decide to get married and keep each other company, they stay with each other for a while and then they start having children.
The children keep them very busy and keep them company. The children begin to grow into adults and begin to leave their parents home one after another. The parents seem to be comfortable when one leaves for school or a job. They do not really feel lonely because other siblings are available at home.
Gradually, all the children leaves the house and go their different ways. The parents most times start expecting their children to get spouses of their own, get their own source of livelihood and start their own families.
Funny enough all these development begin to be ongoing in the lives of the children, the house begin to feel lonely and the parents are left all to themselves again. Life repeats itself in old age.
The old parents begin to seek grandchildren from their children to keep them company at their old age. The children reproduce and give birth to their own children who now become grandchildren to the old parents.
The parents find joy whenever the grandchildren comes around and stay with them, perhaps for holidays or for the weekends. Most grandchildren prefer to live with their grandparents instead of their parents because their grandparents tend to pamper them better that their parents and spoil them with anything they want.
Some old people select the grandchildren they love. This kind of love comes from the children. If they preferred this other child to the other that is how they will prefer the children of that loved child to the children of the other child that was not really loved.
Some grandparents do not prefer a particular grandchild with regards to the love for their own child but rather they prefer a grand child or a set of grand child in relation to their presence and earnest participation in the life of that particular grandchild when he or she was born or they show intense love and pampering to some certain grandchildren because of situations that surrounded the birth and growth of that particular grandchild which they were very present to witness.
Also most old parents prefer a set of their grandchildren to the other depending on the financial status and successes of the parents (their own children or child) so they tend to rate the children that come from that particular child of theirs higher and treat them much better.
