As a result of that work, great opportunities for work experience in the field of visual arts arose; I had the opportunity to restore a Passion Chapel with the niche of the crucifixion in the church of La Pastora in the city of Caracas, Venezuela. When I was summoned to the church to create the mural, since the parish hall where I would paint the mural was not yet restored, then to take advantage of my skills in plastic arts, they offered me the opportunity to carry out a restoration inside the main hall of the church, it was a passion chapel next to the altar, with the niche of the crucifixion; the plaster pieces were deteriorated and the paint worn. Cuando me citaron para la iglesia para realizar el mural, ya que el salón parroquial donde pintaría el mural todavía no estaba restaurado, entonces para aprovechar mis habilidades en artes plásticas, me ofrecieron la oportunidad de realizar una restauración dentro del salón principal de la iglesia, se trataba de una capilla pasionaria a lado del altar, con el nicho de la crucifixión; las piezas de yeso estaban deterioradas y la pintura desgastada.

My job was to restore the deteriorated areas with plaster and precisely retouch the paint on each piece. Since the church is part of the nation's cultural heritage, everything had to be exact, the colors the same as the originals; nothing could be changed. There was supervision from the government agencies responsible for evaluating these kinds of situations. The responsibility of what I was doing there was truly enormous; everything had to go perfectly, but I had faith in myself. Mi labor seria restaurar las zonas deterioradas con yeso y retocar la pintura exacta de cada una de las piezas, como esa iglesia forma parte del patrimonio cultural de la nación, todo tenía que ser muy exacto, colores iguales a los originales, no se podía cambiar nada, había supervisión de los entes gubernamentales encargados de evaluar este tipo de situaciones. De verdad la responsabilidad de lo que yo estaba realizando allí era muy grande, todo tenía que salir bien, pero yo confió en mí.
I am not religious, but I restored Christ; I felt like a Renaissance artist painting churches in the 16th century, like Michelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel, like Caravaggio, Bernini, Velázquez, what a wonderful experience I was given the opportunity to live in this contemporary era. Yo no soy religioso, pero restaure a Cristo; me sentía como un artista renacentista pintando iglesias en el siglo XVI, a lo Miguel Ángel pintando la capilla Sixtina, a lo Caravaggio, Bernini, Velázquez, que maravillosa experiencia se me dio la oportunidad de vivir en esta época contemporánea.

The paint on the entire backdrop also needed to be restored. Since I had a deadline, I asked Diego, a fellow artist with whom I've been working on murals, for help. We delivered that work flawlessly, and that's why they offered us another project where we could excel. También se tenía que restaurar la pintura de toda la escenografía del fondo, como tenía un tiempo límite para entregar, le pedí ayuda a Diego un hermano de las artes con el que he estado trabajando en los murales. Ese trabajo lo entregamos impecable y por eso nos ofrecieron otra labor en la que pudiéramos destacar.

We had to paint some decorations on the church columns, both at the top and the base. It involved seven levels of scaffolding and ten columns, plus other decorations on the side walls. We did an impeccable job on this project, which led to me being called for future work that I'll be sharing soon. Teníamos que pintar unos adornos que están en las columnas de la iglesia, tanto en la parte superior como en la base de la columna; fueron 7 pisos de cuerpos de andamios y 10 columnas más otros adornos que estaban en las paredes laterales. En esta labor también realizamos un trabajo impecable, esto permitió que me llamaran para trabajo futuros que pronto estaré compartiendo.
This has been the beginning of a journey I've undertaken restoring the nation's cultural heritage sites. This experience adds to my resume and strengthens my professional career in art. I never imagined I would paint a church, and today I realize that the only limit is the mind. I hope you enjoyed this experience. Good vibes.
