In the city of Maturín, at the end of a street very near the children's park, lives Mrs. Gladys with her husband Luis and their 8-year-old daughter, Roxana.
At the start of the school year, she began her third grade of primary school. She is a very outgoing girl, socializing with different children, but she gets along especially well with Bruno, who is very kind and outgoing, and Adriana is her inseparable friend.
In the classroom, a very introverted boy catches her attention; at recess, he sits under a tree with a notebook and pencil.
One day, during recess, she approached him and asked, "José Sandoval , what are you drawing?" He looked up and shyly replied,
"Do you want to see what I'm doing?" Extending his hand, he gave her his sketchbook. She, delighted, looked at it and noticed that the boy had drawn her face in charcoal. From that moment on, a beautiful friendship blossomed between them.
Three years later, Roxana and her group of friends entered the high school to begin their secondary studies. José Sandoval was the only one who didn't go, because his parents had sold their house and moved to Maracaibo for work at PDVSA; his father was transferred and settled in that city.
Five years passed. Adriana, Bruno, and Roxana graduated from high school with excellent grades in their subjects.
Six months later, that group of friends went their separate ways. Each pursued their own studies, and Roxana never heard from them again. She enrolled at the University of Oriente, based in Maturín, to study agronomy; she had a great passion for animals and plants.
Her father owns a ranch on the outskirts of Maturín, where she often travels during school vacations to ride her horse, "Salvaje" (Wild). She is very skilled. She loves participating in equestrian competitions held in her town during the Valentine's Day fair. There, she won a trophy and the nickname "La Amazona" (The Amazon) because she specializes in show jumping, dressage, and other traditional disciplines like charreada (a type of equestrian sport).
Six years later, Roxana earned her degree in Agricultural Engineering and dedicated herself to managing her father's farm. She also traveled to various states in Venezuela and other countries, sharing her knowledge in the field of equestrian sports.
One afternoon, she went shopping; she ran into Bruno at the store, and they struck up a long and beautiful conversation. They arranged to meet at a nightclub.
A month later, Bruno declared his love for her; several days later, he asked, "Roxana, will you marry me?" Her face paled like a magnolia blossom, and Her lips, white as snow, she replied: , "Yes!"
In a short time, they got married, bought a house, moved in, and began living together, thus building their love nest. The first six months were blissful.
Shortly after moving in together, Bruno transformed into an arrogant, hostile man; nothing pleased him, and his personality was constantly changing. Until one day Roxana told him:
“I thought I knew you, but it’s only after living together for a short time that I’ve truly come to know you.” Distressed, he replied:
Forgive me!” she responded indignantly.
“Get out of my house! I’ll get a divorce soon!” Bruno packed his bag and left. They divorced shortly afterward. She never heard from him again.
Two years later, she was invited to Paris to facilitate a horse racing conference. After the event, she visited the Petit Palais, the Museum of Fine Arts.
In one room, an exhibition of a prominent painter was on display; upon entering and looking at the paintings, she saw her own face reflected in one of them. As she turned, she noticed a very interesting man who couldn't stop staring at her.
The man approached her and exclaimed,
"Roxana, it's been so long since I've seen you!" Overjoyed, she embraced him and replied,
"My friend, what a joy to see you again," he said in a very warm voice.
“Let’s go to the café across the street, I’ll buy you a coffee!” While they were enjoying the delicious coffee, she asked him:
“What have you been doing all these years?” With a smile on his face, he replied:
“I completed my secondary education in Maracaibo. Then I entered the University of Zulia and graduated with a degree in Architecture.” She cheerfully added:
“Who would have thought that you went from being that introverted boy to such an extrovert?” Very happily, he replied:
“Thank God, because as soon as I graduated, I moved to Paris without my family, to the city of art, and here I’ve achieved my goals!” With great subtlety, she asked him:
“How could you paint me if you hadn?'t seen me since I was a little girl?” he said romantically.
“Since then, I envisioned you and projected what you would be like in the future, because I always carry you in my heart with sincere love.” He took her hand and caressed it. Roxana's cheeks turned as red as a ripe tomato, and her heart beat rapidly like the second hand of a clock. She looked at her watch, gave him her phone number, and said goodbye. He returned to the museum.
Two days passed, and José couldn't get in touch with the young woman. On the third day, he finally managed to contact her by phone:
“Hello, darling,” “How are you? I'll pick you up at the hotel at 8 p.m.”
“I'll be waiting!”
He arrived on time, and from there they went to the nightclub. They enjoyed themselves until dawn. He took her back to the hotel, they said goodbye, and he returned home.
The next day, she received a notification that she had to appear in Maturín to participate in the Valentine's Day fair. She immediately called José:
"Hi, I'll be waiting for you today at the café across from the Museum at 2 p.m."
When she arrived at the café, she saw that José was already waiting for her. Seated at a table, he invited her to sit down and ordered two coffees. She told him,
"I have to return to Venezuela first thing tomorrow morning!" She extended her hand and showed him the invitation she had received. José read it, and a sad expression crossed his face. He added:
“I’m so sorry you have to leave, I love you!” Her heart was racing, and she couldn’t speak, overcome with emotion. When she finally managed to speak, she said softly,
“I’m so afraid of failing again.” He replied,
“You won’t fail. I’ve loved you since we were in school. This love is bigger than the ocean!” He took a small case from his jacket, removed a ring, took her hand, slipped it onto her finger, and asked,
“Will you marry me?” Overwhelmed with emotion, she answered,
“Yes!” He swept her into his arms and kissed her.
Upon returning to Venezuela, they married and settled on her parents’ ranch.
On February 14th, at the Valentine's Day Fair, the equestrian competition took place; Roxana participated and won. Overjoyed, José shouted from the stands, "That's my Amazon!".

Shortly after, José began working at the university as an architecture professor. He occasionally travels to Paris with his wife to exhibit his paintings.
Currently, Roxana and José are celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary, growing stronger each day through their love and mutual respect.
