On Margarita Island, Nueva Esparta State, Venezuela, in the early 2000, Leonor married Alex.

Nine years later, she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl whom she named Andrea. A year later, Alex and Leonor divorced. This situation forces this young woman to emigrate to Cumaná, where she establishes her residence, working from home making unisex clothing, which supports her and her daughter, who is an obedient child despite her temperament.

During her adolescence, Andrea was characterized by her short stature, pronounced hips, honey-colored eyes, chestnut-brown hair, — beautiful and strong-willed.

Andrea was an exceptional student throughout her primary and secondary education. She met a young man named Edward, who captivated her deeply. When she graduated at 16, that very night, after her graduation ceremony, she moved into Edward's residence, disregarding the pain it caused her mother.

A month later, she became pregnant by him. Her mother went to talk to her, offering her help, but Andrea refused, saying:

“I don’t want anything from you, go away!” Tears welled in her mother’s eyes; unable to contain her pain, she retorted:

“I pray to God that you fare well and that you find happiness with this scum.” Without another word, Leonor left.

eight months passed, and Andrea gave birth to a beautiful boy whom she named Antonio. Five years later, she and Edward decided to move to Puerto Ordaz. Before leaving for that city, they left the boy with his grandmother Leonor in the city of Cumaná. This young woman, very upset with her mother, told her:

“I’m leaving my son with you to take care of,” Leonor subtly added.

“Daughter, may God bless you.” Andrea chose not to say a word and walked away.

While living in Puerto Ordaz with his wife, he ordered her to commit crimes and forced her into prostitution. Andrea was so in love with him that she accepted everything he ordered. He even introduced her to his friends as his cousin.

the money Andrea earned from carrying out these activities he ordered was given to him. And he was the one who controlled and did with that money as he pleased.

Two years later, Andrea was implicated in criminal activity for stealing a cell phone containing a file with compromising information. She was sentenced to six years in prison in one of the jails in Puerto Ordaz.

While she was incarcerated, she didn't see Edward at the prison; however, while there, she began to experience symptoms of illness.

She underwent blood tests, and the results were positive for HIV, with an advanced stage of infection, making her a carrier of AIDS. When the doctor informed her of her infection, she cried so much that her tears streamed down her cheeks like raindrops hitting a windowpane. There she received treatment. And after serving her sentence, she was released. That day she called her mother from a cell phone:

“Mom, forgive me, I feel a heavy weight in my heart for all the suffering I’ve caused you.” His mother, deeply distressed, replied:

“I have nothing to forgive you for. I’ll transfer you money so you can take a bus home; your son and I will be waiting for you!” As soon as she received the money, she went to the bus terminal in that city, bought the tickets, and boarded the bus to Cumaná.

Upon arriving in this city, her mother and son were waiting for her. As she got out of the car and walked toward them, her son was beaming with happiness; his face was illuminated, a smile spread across his face, his cheeks as red as coral. As soon as he saw her, he ran toward her with his arms outstretched like a bird taking flight. Overflowing with joy, he shouted:

“Mom, give me your blessing, I love you so much! You look so white, like a snowflake!” She, deeply moved, hugged and kissed him, saying:

“God bless you, you're so tall and handsome! How are things going at school?” Very excited, the boy replied:

“Great, I got straight A's on my report card!” Then she turned to her mother, hugged her, and said through her tears:

“Forgive me for the suffering I have caused you; it weighs heavily on my soul that I disobeyed you and mistreated you with my words.” Gently, her mother stroked her hair and added:

“Daughter, I have nothing to forgive you for. I believe your behavior was a product of your inexperience!” They returned home, and everything went back to normal.

As soon as she rested from her trip, she went to the SIDA department at HUAPA (Antonio Patricio Alcalá University Hospital). There, the doctor examined her, performed routine tests in the medical laboratory, and from that moment on, she became a patient in that department for her VIH management.

A year later, HUAPA created the AIDS Prevention Foundation. Currently, Andrea works as a social worker at this foundation, helping young people and adults raise awareness about preventative measures to avoid contracting the disease.

Through her work at the Foundation, Andrea seeks to ease the burden of her conscience for having caused her mother so much pain with her actions during her youth.
