The Hospital Stay That May Have Saved My Father's Life

Watching My Father Hospitalized Broke My Heart
There are some battles that happen so quietly that even the people closest to us fail to see how much pain a person is carrying.
My older sister and mother is with my father this time
For years, I knew my father, @rubenjr, had hemorrhoids. I knew he experienced discomfort. I knew there were days when he complained about pain.
But I never truly understood the severity of his condition until this week. What I thought was a health problem turned out to be an eighteen-year struggle.
For nearly two decades, my father lived with severe internal hemorrhoids. Over the years, the condition gradually worsened. There was frequent bleeding, persistent discomfort, and symptoms that became increasingly difficult to ignore.
The most alarming part was that a portion of the tissue from inside his rectum or a large part of his intestine would protrude outward or come out of his body. Eventually, it reached a point where it would happen regardless of whether he was sitting, standing, or simply going about his daily routine.

As a daughter, it is heartbreaking to write those words.
I cannot imagine what it must have been like to live with that condition every single day for eighteen years. Yet my father continued working. He continued supporting our family. He continued putting everyone else's needs before his own.
Like many fathers, he rarely talked about his suffering. or should i say that he simply endured it. This week, his condition finally led to hospitalization.
To be honest, I was terrified.
No matter how much faith you have, seeing your parent admitted to a hospital is never easy. Your mind immediately starts imagining every possible outcome.

Not gonna lie, the waiting was one of the hardest parts: Waiting for updates. Waiting for the surgery. Waiting for the doctors to come out and tell us what they had found.
When the operation was finally completed, we learned that my father's case was much more serious than we had realized.
The surgeons discovered three unusually large hemorrhoidal masses along with several smaller ones. According to the doctor, infection had already begun to develop.
What struck me the most was something the doctor told my father afterward. He said that coming to the hospital when he did was one of the best decisions he could have made because it could be life-threatening if the operation was delayed. Hearing that made me relieve.
Because it made me realize that what we had been treating as a chronic problem had become something much more dangerous.
For eighteen years, my father lived with a condition that gradually stole his comfort, his strength, and perhaps even his peace of mind. But he never stopped being a father. He never stopped showing up for us.
Today, as I write this blog from the hospital, my father is recovering from surgery.
We are grateful. Grateful for the doctors who cared for him. Grateful for every person who offered prayers. Grateful for those who encouraged him not to postpone treatment any longer.
I am sharing this story with you, Hive community, because life has a way of changing our priorities overnight.
A few days ago, I was focused on ordinary things. Today, I am simply thankful that my father came out of surgery safely.
The road to recovery is still ahead of us, but for the first time in a very long time, there is hope that he will no longer have to live with the suffering he carried for eighteen years. And that is a blessing our family will never take for granted.
The operation may be over, but our family's journey is not.
Recovery will take time. There are still medical expenses to settle, medications to secure, and many uncertainties ahead. Like many families facing a medical emergency, we are taking things one day at a time and doing our best to remain hopeful despite the challenges.
Still, I choose to focus on what matters most: my father is alive. For eighteen years, he endured pain that most people never knew about. Today, he finally has a chance to heal.
To everyone in the Hive community who has taken the time to read our story, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your kind words, prayers, encouragement, and support mean more than you can imagine during a season like this.
If there is one thing I humbly ask, it is that you keep my father in your thoughts and prayers as he begins his recovery. And if this story moves you in any way, please know that every gesture of kindness—whether through encouragement, sharing our story, or any form of support—will be deeply appreciated by our family.
For now, we continue to place our hope in God, take one step at a time, and remain thankful for every blessing that has carried us this far.
