Throughout history, God has interacted to humanity in different dispensations through different ways of revealing His will. Under the dispensation of The Law, people sought to walk with God by abiding by the commandments and rituals but it was a constant struggle. The Israelites often derailed because, although they desired to obey God, they lacked the inner power to do so.
The Law could tell you what was right and wrong, but it could not give you the ability to live it out. It was meant to expose sin, not remove it. In this way, The Law prepared the world for the dispensation of grace, the arrival of Jesus Christ.
You cannot live a Christian life without Christ living in you. But once you repent and accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour, the Holy Spirit takes residence in you and as well gives you both the desire and the strength to please God.
