The $36 Trillion Debt: Why Every American Baby Is Born Millions in Debt

Dear Readers, as an American Citizen I am frequently astonished by the size of the National Debt. But in a strange way I have always felt like it was someone else's debt, and not my own. I always thought that the politicians have gotten themselves into this problem and they will have to figure it out. But now I realize, that they have not gotten themselves into this problem, they have gotten us into this problem. And suddenly I see the USA National Debt very differently.

The government does not actually create wealth on its own. The real strength of our country comes from the hard work, skills, and smart ideas of everyday people.

When the United States borrows money, it promises to pay that money back using "the full faith and credit of the United States." That legal phrase sounds complicated, but it means something very simple: the government is promising to use future taxes collected from you, your children, and your grandchildren to pay off those loans.

In simple terms, we are the collateral. The government’s debt is secured by our future earnings.

How Government Borrowing Impacts You

Sovereign debt is not an abstract number that just fades away; it directly shapes our daily lives in two major ways:

Higher Taxes in the Future: When the government owes tens of trillions of dollars, a large chunk of tax money has to be spent just paying off the interest. That means less money is available for roads, schools, and parks, or it means taxes have to go up to cover the bill. Rising Prices (Inflation): When the government borrows and creates too much money faster than the economy grows, each dollar loses a little bit of its buying power. This causes prices at the grocery store to rise, making everyday life more expensive for working families.

Why We Must Pay Attention

Every time Congress borrows more money for short-term spending, they are taking out a mortgage on our future work. Because we and our children are the ones who ultimately have to foot the bill, we cannot leave this issue to politicians alone.

Understanding public debt is not just about numbers—it is about protecting our families' hard-earned income. As citizens, we need to speak up and care about why and how our government borrows money, making sure they do not leave an impossible burden for the next generation. https://img.leopedia.io/DQmRWHbonZNhHxPt4rivhmnnAQRHZzwok7YrsfB2Wze2mgz/Screenshot%202026-09-07%20at%201.20.55%E2%80%AFPM.png Posted Using [INLEO](https://inleo.io/@shortsegments/the-36-trillion-debt-why-every-american-baby-is-born-millions-in-debt-due)
