Primate

A group of friends goes on vacation to a remote tropical island for a dream trip. Soon, their getaway turns into a nightmare when they discover that a primitive threat is lurking in the jungle. What was supposed to be a peaceful adventure becomes a bloody battle for survival. Is it worth watching? If you have other options, just skip it.

The location where the house was built was wow. I’m trying to find positives here. It has some pretty violent deaths. The fact that they used a complex animatronic suit for the chimpanzee instead of simply relying on CGI is something I’ll count as a positive. It’s so dumb that, at times, you could call it guilty entertainment. The practical effects create a tangible and threatening presence.

Not that I had high expectations for the performances, but they were below average. The script, if you can even call it a script, is laughable. The clichés just keep coming. Predictable ending. I somehow made it to the end 💪. I honestly don’t know why Troy Kotsur agreed to be in this. Completely wasted. I don’t think you’ll be scared at any point. Some scenes were unintentionally hilarious. Some characters basically exist just to add to the body count.

Roofman

Jeffrey Manchester, a charismatic robber known as the “Roofman,” broke into more than 40 McDonald’s restaurants by entering through the roofs of the buildings. A former military man serving a 45-year sentence and determined to see his family again, he escapes from prison and hides out in a toy store. Is it worth your attention?

🟢🟢🟢🟢

Thematically, it’s interesting, but… Its comedic side is entertaining. And yes, it’s based on a true story, which definitely caught my attention. It feels like a role tailor-made for Channing Tatum. He brings great energy to it. Very good chemistry between Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst. It’s an enjoyable watch despite its flaws. Strong editing. The direction is solid. Despite its comedic elements, it takes a more mature approach to its subject matter. It touches on themes such as loneliness, alienation, and the desire for redemption.

🔴🔴🔴🔴

It doesn’t really explore any of the things it tries to address 🤷‍♂️. I’m not sure the feel-good tone toward the end worked for me. Easy, crowd-pleasing narrative solutions. The soundtrack was a little too sweet and sentimental. The whole thing never really takes off. It feels bloated at times. It’s not something you haven’t seen before, nor is it particularly memorable.
