The Reality of University Life at Babcock 😂

If someone told me before entering university that I would learn as much outside the classroom as I would inside it, I probably wouldn’t have believed them.

Then I came to Babcock.

University life is funny because when you’re coming in as a fresher, you have all these expectations.

You imagine yourself attending every class, reading ahead, making good friends, eating healthy, managing your money properly and graduating with an amazing result.

Then reality hits. 😂

You quickly realize that university isn’t just about attending lectures and writing exams.

It’s about learning how to live with different kinds of people.

It’s about having a roommate who has completely different habits from you.

It’s about rushing to class because you spent too much time getting ready.

It’s about telling yourself you’ll read for three hours at night and somehow ending up scrolling through your phone.

It’s about those moments when you check your account balance and suddenly remember that money doesn’t grow on trees. 😂

And then there is food.

Every university student understands that food can become a serious topic of conversation. You can be having a completely normal day and somehow end up discussing what you’re going to eat for dinner.

Babcock also has its own unique experience.

There are rules, routines, academics, social activities, hostel life, fellowships, sports and different student organizations. The university itself describes student life as involving not only academics but also spiritual, social, physical and personal development.

Looking back, I think that’s one of the interesting things about university.

You don’t just leave with a degree.

You leave with experiences.

You learn how to communicate with people.

You learn how to handle pressure.

You learn how to manage money.

You make friends.

You lose friends.

You make mistakes.

You discover things about yourself that you never knew before.

And somewhere between the assignments, exams, late nights, laughter, stress and random conversations, you slowly become a different person.

That’s probably the real university experience.

Years later, you might forget some of the lectures you attended.

But you’ll probably remember the people you met, the crazy moments, the friendships and the experiences that shaped you.

So here’s my question for everyone who has been to university:

What is one thing university taught you that no classroom ever could?😂
