Be Careful What You Tell Your Cats

A few days ago, I wrote about how the squirrels in our garden were doing the absolute most, destroying and eating their way through a good portion of the food growing there. I jokingly told my cats to hunt them down.

Well, I think Tiger took that assignment a little too seriously. Since the day I made that statement, he has caught about three squirrels, and he refuses to let go of them no matter how hard I try to make him.

He even managed to make me look like the bad guy when I tried to rescue one. I reached for the squirrel, trying to get Tiger to release it, and this boy hit me with his claws. 😭 It was so sudden and scary that I immediately decided to mind my business.

My mum, of course, thinks I should let him do whatever he wants. After all, I was the one who gave him the assignment in the first place. Plus, she wants the number of squirrels in the yard reduced so that she can actually get some of the fruits for herself.

At this point, I think it’s safe to say that cats actually hear us and understand what we say. The problem is that they are incredibly stubborn and seem to believe they are the ones in charge.

They act like they own the place. They ignore you when you want their attention and then suddenly appear when they need something.

Clover’s kittens

Tiger’s attitude is definitely the worse of the two. He leaves the house whenever he pleases and returns whenever he feels like it, without any explanation whatsoever. When he strolls back in, just know he either wants food or wants to sleep somewhere in peace.

And if he has already hunted and caught something that day, don’t even try to tempt him with food. He’ll kick the bowl away, look you straight in the face and give you the most painfully judgmental stare.

Sometimes, when he returns and I try to have a conversation with him, he completely ignores me. Other times, he starts a fight for absolutely no reason, walks away and finds a corner to sleep in. Like, sir, I am your mother. At least pretend to respect me. 😭

Clover, on the other hand, simply does her own thing and minds her business with her kittens. She still hunts when she feels like it, but ever since she gave birth, she mostly eats at home and sleeps. She only really becomes active at night.

Despite all their stubbornness, attitude and occasional violence, I love these cats so much. They bring a certain kind of comfort into my life, and somehow, having them around makes living a little more bearable. I wouldn’t want any harm to come to either of them. Even Tiger. Although he really needs to stop taking my instructions so literally.

Happy Sunday, everyone. 🐈‍⬛❤️
