National Vinyl Record Day Is celebrated annually on August 12; although Sony decided to stop manufacturing vinyl records in 1989 due to the rising popularity of more portable music formats, it resumed production in 2017 in response to increased demand. Today, vinyl records have made a strong comeback and are the preferred format for many who feel that digital formats offer sound lacking in character or charm.

National Vinyl Record Day was created by Gary Freiberg in Los Osos, California. He chose August 12th because that was the date Thomas Edison invented the phonograph in 1877. He based this invention on the phonograph created in 1857 by the French inventor Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinville. A few years later, in 1887, Emile Berliner patented the gramophone, considered the first vinyl record player. Thirty-four years later, the Victor company released a record player called the Red Seal. This player played 10-inch vinyl records. Columbia Records released 33 1/3 RPM records in 1948; these were made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and the sound was recorded into the grooves of the vinyl.

Vinyl records remained popular until Sony invented the compact disc in 1982. This led to a slow decline in the popularity of vinyl records, culminating in Sony's decision to stop manufacturing them entirely in 1989. Vinyl records began to make a comeback in 2006, and by 2017, they were popular enough for Sony to resume production. Their popularity continued to grow, reaching 27.5 million records sold in the United States in 2020—a 46% increase over 2019. - The first commercial LP, released by RCA Victor in 1930, was a failure. - Paul Mawhinney is believed to own the largest collection of vinyl records; he has over a million records. - Clear and colored vinyl records often have more surface noise than standard black vinyl records.

Family Time!

We realize that life isn't all about the important things like #politics, #religion and #sex, no, it's about the time spent, the experiences had and memories made. Memories get passed on, experiences are shared and time - time is the currency we spend to acquire them.
