[Movie] Clash Of The Thundermans.

Clash of the Thundermans is one of those nostalgic watches that pulled me back in purely because of how long this franchise has actually been running, The story begins with Chloe acquiring this brand new super power, but not a cute controllable one, a super power that is unpredictable and destructive, and one that frightens even those around her. This organisation, the Hero League, which basically runs all the superheroes, steps in and requires her to be sent off to an elite boarding school created and designed just for superheroes, to learn to control what she has before it becomes a danger.
That choice not only divides the whole Thunderman family in half, it's the crux of the film Chloe's sister Phoebe, her mom Barb and brother Billy, are not in favor of sending her away, and they do not want to lose years of her childhood to some distant school, so they decide to keep her hidden instead, But on the other side of things, Max, Hank, and Nora feel that it is safer for her to go to boarding school after all, it's for Chloe's best interest, and everyone else's too so they go to the trouble of finding the rest of the family and reuniting Chloe, It begins with a conflict that gradually evolves into a stand-off between two parts of the same family, each one with a strong sense that they are doing the best for Chloe.
What's my take on that, since there were a lot of people just watching to see the old cast back together, which is valid, but what I really notice is the portrayal of the conflict in this movie, It's not really good side versus bad side, it's love expressed two completely different ways. Phoebe's protectiveness is the notion that she doesn't want Chloe to feel abandoned by her own family and Max's is because he doesn't want her to be in danger of that power if it's not kept in check. Neither side is right, that's why the family feud feels real, not a melodrama for the sake of a story.
It's not to say it's not Chloe's life being decided by everybody around her, but it is, at the end of the day, and there's something relatable about that, hehe, of a kid being caught between two versions of protection that are both well-meaning.
The ending, however, is somewhat lacking where the film is concerned, which is what all the old fans have been complaining about these Thundermans movies in general, it just doesn't land. It wraps it up a little too tidily for all the drama it put in its build-up, and the family has been through so much, I wanted a little more to follow the tie up than a nice nice finish.
But it's still very cute to see this cast re-emerge in these roles, ten years after the original series had wrapped, no, it's not that it's trying to do anything new, it's just that it's offering long-time fans another dose of chemistry, albeit one that is a bit predictable by the end.
Overall, Clash of the Thundermans won't take anyone by surprise for innovation, but it's nice to see them reunited, and that puts a layer over the movie that the plot doesn't necessarily warrant.
