I won't lie, seeing Gabriel Martinelli leave Arsenal for Al Hilal has left me with mixed feelings. When you look at the deal itself, £60 million is serious money. Martinelli has been part of Arsenal for seven years. He has played 191 Premier League games for the club, scoring 41 goals and providing 24 assists. We have also seen some really good moments from him, especially during the 2022/23 season when he scored 15 league goals. The strange thing for me is the timing. Arsenal have already allowed Leandro Trossard to leave this summer, and now Martinelli is also gone. At the same time, the club have not exactly solved all their problems in attack. That is the part I don't really understand. If Arteta no longer considered Martinelli an important part of his plans, then maybe selling him makes sense. Last season, he made 30 Premier League appearances but started only 11 of them. With Christos Tzolis arriving and Eberechi Eze now competing in the attacking areas, Martinelli's position in the team was becoming more difficult. But Arsenal are still Arsenal. They will need goals, pace and players who can change games from the bench. Martinelli could provide some of that. I also remember how important he was when Arsenal were pushing Manchester City for the title in 2022/23. He was still young, aggressive and fearless. Of course, players develop differently, and perhaps Arteta simply feels it is time to move in another direction. What makes the situation more interesting is that Arsenal have now made more than £120 million from player sales this summer. That's a lot of money. So now I'm really interested in what happens next. If Arsenal use that money to bring in attacking quality and strengthen the areas where they need it, then this Martinelli sale could eventually look like very good business. But if they sell Martinelli and Trossard without bringing in enough attacking quality, then supporters will naturally start asking questions. For me, the £60 million is not the problem. But the real question is: who replaces Martinelli? Sometimes selling a player is part of rebuilding a team. The important thing is making sure the squad is actually stronger after the player leaves. Martinelli has had his ups and downs at Arsenal, but after seven years, I think he deserves appreciation for what he contributed. Now we wait to see whether Arsenal's plan makes sense or not. 🔴⚽
