Honestly, as a Chelsea fan, this midfield situation is starting to make me uncomfortable. But approaching Arsenal for one of their important players was always going to be a difficult mission. Arsenal rejected the approach and, from their point of view, I completely understand why. But the bigger issue for me is not even Zubimendi. It is who we are going to use in midfield now that Enzo Fernández has left for Manchester City. Losing Enzo was already a big change for the team. Whether you loved his performances or sometimes felt he didn't live up to expectations, there is no denying that he was an important part of our midfield. Chelsea were reportedly looking at Lamine Camara from Monaco as one possible replacement, but that deal collapsed. And now we're looking around again. Meanwhile, Moisés Caicedo is injured. This is the part that really worries me. 😭 Imagine starting an important part of the season without Enzo and then losing Caicedo to injury at the same time. These are not small changes. That is basically removing two major midfield options from the equation. Yes, we have other midfielders such as Romeo Lavia who is also injury prone player and Barco who is just coming in and a 36 years old Henderson. Yes, the squad has quality. And yes, I believe in the players wearing that Chelsea shirt. But let's be realistic. A long season is different from playing two or three matches. Injuries, suspensions, fatigue and fixture congestion will eventually test the depth of the squad. This is why I think Chelsea need to move quickly. We don't necessarily need to panic-buy someone just because Enzo has left. But we absolutely need to make sure we have a midfielder capable of giving us control, composure and quality in possession. Because if Caicedo is not available, who is going to take responsibility in the middle? That's the question I keep asking myself. As Chelsea fans, we have seen this club make some strange decisions in the transfer market before. I really don't want us to reach January and suddenly realise that we should have solved this problem months earlier. Maybe the club already has another target lined up behind the scenes. Maybe there is a player we have not even heard about yet. I genuinely hope so. Because I don't want to spend the season sitting in front of my TV shouting: “We should have signed a midfielder!” 😂💔 For me, this is one area Chelsea simply cannot afford to gamble on.
