Manchester City had actually missed the deadline Chelsea set for them to make an offer, and Chelsea were expecting the Argentine midfielder to remain at Stamford Bridge for the 2026/27 season. But football can change very quickly. And my mind keep telling me that he will leave on the deadline day and it happened. City came back before the transfer window closed, negotiations continued, and on September 1, 2026, Manchester City finally completed the signing for £125 million, matching the British transfer record. Enzo has signed a five-year contract and will reunite with his former Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca. Looking back, Enzo's Chelsea journey lasted roughly three and a half years. He joined the club from Benfica in January 2023 for around £106.8 million, which was a British transfer record at the time. And I can't lie, he gave us some really good moments. His 2025/26 season was particularly impressive. He made 54 appearances, scored 15 goals and provided seven assists. Those are not the numbers of a player who contributed nothing to the team. So, was selling him the right decision? Honestly, I'm still not sure. £125 million is a huge amount of money, especially for a midfielder, and I understand why Chelsea would consider the offer. But money alone does not replace a player of Enzo's quality. What worries me most is the timing. Chelsea have lost an important midfielder, and now the club has to find a way to replace his influence. We can't just celebrate the money coming in and forget about what happens on the pitch. And then there is the part every Chelsea fan is probably thinking about... Enzo could now line up against us in a Manchester City shirt. 😭 Imagine watching him control the midfield against Chelsea after everything that has happened. That is going to feel very strange. I don't hate Enzo for leaving. Football is a business, and players have their own ambitions. But as a Chelsea fan, I would have loved to see him stay and continue his journey at Stamford Bridge.
