⚽ Isak’s Early Double Gives Liverpool Their First Win Under Iraola

I honestly expect Liverpool to get their first win against Ipswich after two draw from their previous two games but I didn't expect Liverpool to start the game that strongly. They were 2-0 up just inside nine minutes, with Alexander Isak scoring both goals and Coady Gakpo provided the assist. After the two draws to begin Iraola's time in charge, this was certainly a much better start. https://img.leopedia.io/DQmaWHb8XPbXWS1a25zQ6ZJ3d8amY93Z47dWncUr9AJD9Rq/ipswich-town-0-2-liverpool-alexander-isak-9-v0-OTByZ3cxb2p5am5oMVZrkaLKetNBfTYKWoHRRk8NU1bFzsBkczbNmsdPITJY.jpg
[Source](https://www.reddit.com/r/LiverpoolFC/comments/1w7drct/ipswichtown02liverpoolalexanderisak9/) What impressed me most was how quickly Liverpool took control of the game and then how calmly they managed it afterwards. It would have been easy to keep pushing for more goals after going 2-0 up so early, but they didn't seem to lose their shape or become too open. Isak obviously deserves a lot of credit. His first goal came after a good pass from Gakpo, although Scherpen probably should have done better. The second was a good finish after the Ipswich goalkeeper had come too far out. At 2-0 after nine minutes, I thought Ipswich could easily have lost their heads. They did not, though. Once they settled down, they started competing better and created a few moments where Liverpool looked uncomfortable. The Leif Davis header was one of those chances. It went wide, but it showed that Ipswich were still trying to get back into the game. Isak nearly completed his hat-trick before half-time too. He found the net from Wirtz's cross, but the goal was ruled out for offside. It would have been some start for him. The second half was much quieter. And what I liked from Liverpool was their discipline. They did not seem in a hurry to turn the game into a shootout. They kept their shape, moved the ball around and generally made sure Ipswich could not build enough pressure to get back into it. That was probably the part of the performance I appreciated most. There were still a few things to discuss. Ipswich were clearly unhappy with the Jérémy Jacquet challenge, particularly because he was already on a yellow card. Liverpool also had a potential penalty checked before VAR identified an offside earlier in the move. Bradley Barcola making his Premier League debut was another interesting moment. It's obviously too early to say what kind of impact he will have, but Liverpool now have another attacking option to work with. For Ipswich, the two early goals were always going to be difficult to recover from, especially with the goalkeeper mistakes involved. They did improve as the game went on, and I thought they showed enough afterwards to suggest the result was not simply down to them being completely outplayed for 90 minutes. For Liverpool, though, there are plenty of positives. Isak gets two goals, Gakpo provides two assists, the team keeps a clean sheet, and Iraola finally gets his first win as Liverpool manager. I'm still not going to draw too many conclusions from one game. Liverpool will face tougher opponents, and consistency will tell us much more about where this team is heading. But from watching this one, the early attacking quality and the composure after taking the lead were what impressed me most. It was a much more controlled performance than the scoreline at first might suggest.
