Liverpool fans have been waiting for this one for weeks, and now there seems to be a major breakthrough after all. Liverpool have reportedly reached an agreement in principle with Paris Saint-Germain for Bradley Barcola, with the deal worth around £120 million. At 23, he already has serious experience at the highest level. His pace, dribbling and ability to take on defenders could give Liverpool another dangerous attacking option. Watching him play, you can see why the club are willing to spend such a huge amount on him. But there is one thing that keeps coming to my mind: is left wing really where Liverpool need to spend this kind of money right now? That is where the debate becomes interesting. Barcola is naturally more comfortable on the left, while Liverpool have several players who can already operate there. The bigger hole in the squad, in my opinion, is on the right following Mohamed Salah's departure. That was also the point raised by Jamie Carragher, and I can understand the argument. You can sign a fantastic player and still question whether he solves your biggest problem. Barcola can improve Liverpool, no doubt, but if the club still doesn't find the right player for the right wing, fans may eventually look back at this window and wonder whether the priorities were correct. Then again, if Liverpool manage to bring in Barcola and another quality right winger, I don't think anyone will be complaining too much. The reported £120m fee is massive, though. Liverpool are spending heavily this summer, and with the deal potentially making Barcola their second-most expensive signing ever, expectations will naturally be very high. For me, this is one of those transfers where the player looks excellent, but the bigger question is about squad balance. Barcola would be a very exciting addition. Now Liverpool just need to make sure they are fixing the right problems too.
