Hull City Are Showing They Belong in the Premier League Or Is Too Early To Judge

Before the season started, I don't think many people expected Hull City to have seven points from their first three Premier League games. I certainly didn't expect them to remain unbeaten this long.

Their 0-0 draw against Aston Villa might not have been the most exciting game to watch, but I think it showed something important about both teams. Starting with Hull, I really like what I'm seeing from them so far. They look organised, disciplined and, most importantly, they don't seem afraid of the level they are playing at. Three games and three clean sheets is not something you can ignore. Against Villa, they did not just sit back for the whole match. There were moments when they looked dangerous, especially from distance. Mohamed Belloumi came very close with that curling effort that hit the crossbar, and Oli McBurnie had a late opportunity that he will probably think about for a while. If McBurnie had scored that chance, I think Hull would have been celebrating another big Premier League victory. Villa, on the other hand, left me with mixed feelings. I could see what Unai Emery was trying to do. They controlled possession at times and created some decent opportunities, particularly in the second half. But the biggest problem is obvious, and that's the fact that they are not putting the ball in the net. Three league games without a goal is not something Villa fans will be happy about. The chances given to John McGinn and Emiliano Buendia were the kind of opportunities you expect an experienced Premier League side to take. But unfortunately for Villa, neither player could finish. That's probably what frustrated me most about the game. At the same time, I don't think it's fair to panic about Villa yet. Emery has lost some important players and is working with a squad that is still adjusting. Nicolas Jackson brings something different to the attack, while George Hemmings showed some promise, but I believe it will take time developing a new attacking partnership. The Premier League can change very quickly. A team can look like a relegation candidate after a few games and suddenly be climbing the table a couple of months later. Villa have enough quality and, more importantly, they have an experienced manager who has already dealt with difficult situations. So I would not write them off yet. As for Hull, I'm beginning to think they might be capable of making this season much more interesting than people expected. Seven points from three matches, unbeaten and three clean sheets? That's a very good start for a newly promoted team from the championship. For now, Hull deserve to enjoy the attention, while Villa need to find their goals before these early dropped points become a bigger problem. What do you make of Hull's start to the season?
