Recommendation Yomi no Tsugai: Duo from the Underworld 🌑☀️[Eng/Esp]

Hello, anime fans!

I hope you’re all well. It’s been a while since I last popped in here, but I’ve been busy with university. Now that I’m finally on holiday, I’ve got time to catch up on some anime I’d put on hold or added to my watchlist, so today I’m here to talk about an anime I’ve been wanting to watch for a while, called Yomi no Tsugai. It has another name in English, but that translation is awful, so let’s stick with this one.

The story begins with a woman giving birth to a boy and a girl, twins born between day and night, prophesied to be the future rulers of all the Tsugai (beings of great power, supernatural creatures and divine entities). The siblings lived in a village hidden away in the mountains; Yuru hunted in the forest whilst Asa remained shut away. Until one day, the village is attacked by soldiers who murder almost all the villagers in their search for Yuru.

When Yuru goes looking for his sister to save her, he finds her dead, whilst his grandmother is being held by the neck by a woman who claims to be Asa, Yuru’s twin sister. Now Yuru must face the truth: a sister he didn’t grow up with, a conspiracy, and an ancient prophecy involving both him and Asa.

I really liked the start of the story; it gripped me straight away with an explosive burst of action. The Tsugais (also known as Daemons) are incredible; I love their designs; some take human form, animal form or a monstrous form. Yuru is the master of the Great Suyu, two legendary Tsugais named Left (hidari) and Right (migi)—that really made me laugh. They enabled him to escape from the real Asa, Yusu’s sister.

The animation is by Bones Film, so it’s high-quality, detailed and fluid, particularly in the fight or confrontation scenes where the animation is most crucial. I’ve only watched a few episodes so far, but I like the fact that they leave a sort of moral ambiguity about which side is good and which is bad. We know that the twins possess great power that can be used to unleash catastrophes, so it’s not clear which side is the good one—whether it’s Yuru’s or Asa’s—or whether, on the contrary, everything is more complicated than that.

Although it’s worth noting that it was Asa’s side that started off by massacring people. But a certain ambiguity remains because, in the end, it was Asa’s own parents who took her away from the village.

The story and the plot in general are quite entertaining, especially as the episodes go on. Although I did feel there was a bit of a dip in terms of, let’s call it ‘darkness’ after episode one, as the first one started off strongly and the following ones were more ‘family-friendly’, but then the fights came along and I got over it, hahaha.

Espero que se encuentren bien. Hace rato que no pasaba por aquí, pero es que estaba ocupada con la universidad, pero ya que por fin entré en vacaciones, tengo tiempo de ver unos animes que había dejado en pausa o en lista de espera, por lo que en esta ocasión les vengo a hablar de un anime que tenía rato que quería ver, que lleva por nombre: Yomi no tsugai tiene otro nombre en inglés, pero esa traducción es malísima, así que quedémonos con este.

La historia inicia con una mujer dando luz a un niño y una niña, gemelos nacidos entre el día y la noche, profetizados como los futuros gobernantes de todos los Tsugai (seres de gran poder, criaturas sobrenaturales y entidades divinas). Ambos hermanos vivían en una aldea escondida en una montaña; Yuru cazaba en el bosque y Asa permanecía encerrada. Hasta que un día la aldea es atacada por militares que asesinan a casi todos los aldeanos en búsqueda de Yuru.

Cuando Yuru busca a su hermana para salvarla, la encuentra muerta, mientras su abuela es sostenida por el cuello por una mujer que dice ser Asa, la hermana gemela de Yuru. Ahora Yuru tiene que enfrentar a la verdad, una hermana con la que no se crio, una conspiración y una antigua profecía que lo involucra a él y a Asa.

Me gustó mucho el inicio de la historia; me atrapó de una, con un arranque explosivo de acción. Los Tsugais (también llamados Daemons) son increíbles; me encantan sus diseños; algunos tienen forma humana, de animal o una forma monstruosa. Yuru es el amo del Gran Suyu, dos Tsugai legendarios de nombres: Izquierda (hidari) y derecha (migi), esto sí me hizo reír. Estos le permitieron escapar de la verdadera Asa, la hermana de Yusu.

La animación está a cargo de Bones Film, por lo que es de calidad, detallada y fluida, sobre todo en las escenas de pelea o enfrentamiento donde es más importante el cómo se anima. Apenas he visto unos cuantos capítulos, pero me gusta el hecho de que dejan una especie de ambigüedad moral sobre qué lado es el bueno y cuál el malo. Se sabe que los gemelos poseen un gran poder que puede ser usado para desatar catástrofes, por lo que no se tiene claro que lado es el bueno, si el de Yuru o el de Asa o si por el contrario todo es más complicado que eso.

Aunque cabe destacar que fue el lado de Asa, el que inició masacrando gente. Pero se mantiene cierta ambigüedad porque al final fueron los propios padres de Asa quienes la sacaron de la aldea.

La historia y la trama en general son bastante entretenidas, sobre todo a medida que van pasando los capítulos. Aunque sí sentí que hubo como un bajón en cuanto a llamémoslo “oscuridad” después del capítulo uno, ya que el primero arrancó con fuerza y los siguientes fueron más “family friendly”, pero después vinieron las peleas y se me pasó, jajaja. Algo a destacar es que este anime es de Hiromu Arakawa, la creadora de Fullmetal Alchemist, por lo que hay bastante expectativa; mientras tanto, seguiré viendo los capítulos que me faltan para ver cómo avanza la historia.
