A Tale of 2 Weeks

Published on HivePostify by @zekepickleman · Fri Jul 24 2026

Last week, news day netted me over 14k steps but my adventure took me out of town and I didn’t get around to sharing it. So, this week, you get a 2-for-1 and a dose of wildfire smoke!

This morning, we are getting a break from the summer heat with a cool clear morning to start the day early.

Last week, it was a different story. Hot temperatures during the night and day as well as air quality warnings because of the smoke from northern wildfires.

Surely you have heard the news of wild fires causing smoke issues across North America. Not too sure if they are increasing in number or severity but the news seems to spread as thoroughly as the smoke. Especially when the orange asshole sends a bill instead of help but that is a subject for another post.

Needless to say, when this is all you see of the sun last week, I sure was glad to trek out in a clearer morning with cool air this week.

The road was much less ominous looking and the drive seemed a little more enjoyable.

Last week, not so much.

Mater seemed a little off in his Smokey field but didn’t look to be moving very far for relief.

This week, he seemed a little happier in front of of his field of freshly harvested wheat and shed for sale.

Speaking of fields, the corn in the region has rebounded nicely from a slow, damp start to the season. A farmer tells me it has started to tousle, meaning the tops are getting fluffy and the cobs are starting to develop.

Last week’s horrors are a mix of modern and even compact electric.

This week, I stumbled upon classic and historic as this century old 1926 Ford was out meeting with a whole parade of others for a show and a drive.

My view from the steps of city hall was a little hazy looking north last week.

This week, clear and blue looking north towards cottage country.

My downtown steps were woven between those from visitors coming from all around to enjoy theatre season in full swing. Makes for tougher parking but the energy and commerce more than make up for that.

When it is time to wind down and take those last steps to push you over 10k, a walk in the park sure is pleasant this time of year. My little guy might agree.

Thank you for joining me on another 10k day in this small Canadian town as I strive to make the top 200 @actifit users of all time! When I last checked, I am close at 204 and might get there by the end of summer if I keep stepping!
