Fin de semana de arreglos en mi casa….primera parte.

Soy como la hormiguita que no se esta quieta y que si puedo hacer las cosas por mi misma las hago, hasta donde puedo y se, si agradezco de que ver a uno de mis hermanos con el uso del taladro, aprendí a eso a usarlo, como otras herramientas.
Si el fin de semana me activé en hacer algunos arreglos pequeños dentro de la casa, pero que me llenaron de gran satisfacción de que los hice sola.
Primero organizar el lavandero.
Este fue el arreglo mas grande que me llevo mas tiempo, pero hasta que no lo termine, no salí de ese espacio, lo que se empieza de debe terminar.
Materiales y herramientas usados:
Tablas recicladas. Taladro y mechas. Segueta. Martillo. Clavos de acero. Ramplug verde. Tornillos varios. Persiana. Pies de amigos de metal. Llave de tubo de agua. Llave de tubo herramienta. Regla, Lapiz, cuchillo, tijera. Lija.
Y algunos otros que no recuerdo...pero si lo tenia y necesitaba los usaba, sino buscaba donde los vecinos.
El lavandero es pequeño, pero con los arreglos se ve más espacioso, como recién nos regalaron una lavadora doble tina, esta teníamos que estarla sacando y metiendo a cada rato, así es cansón, en el lavandero estaba la otra lavadora que compre hace muchos años, pero esta dañada en la parte eléctrica se la comieron los ratones, que se puede poner directa pero eso si no lo sé, de saberlo hace rato que la hubiese arreglado.
Saqué todo del lavandero primero, le di una buena lavada al piso, porque ahí a veces se meten los morrocoy y tenían eso sucio.
Tengo dos llaves de tubos de agua, la de la batea y otra que era para la conexión de la lavadora, esta estaba mala, así que compre una. Busqué las herramientas las llaves de tubo para hacer el cambio, me faltaba una y se la pedí prestada al vecino.
Con una llave aprete y con la otra afloje la llave mala, una vez que la quite, también quite todo el teflón viejo para poner el nuevo, coloque la llave nueva y con las llaves de tubo, fui apretando, pero vi que goteaba así que aprete más, con algo de miedo que se pudiera partir el tubo pvc, pero gracias a Dios que no paso nada. Por aquí el cambio listo.
Ahora era colocar una tabla arriba como una repisa, para esto busque una tabla que recicle de un viejo escaparate de mi hijo, que por la filtración se dañó, bote lo que no servía y recicle algunas de las tablas, tenia una parte dañada, que con la segueta quite. Fui de nuevo al lavandero pero con los pies de amigo que compre para ver donde los iba a colocar, lo que si no tengo es un nivel para medir, pero gracias a Dios tengo buen ojo para que las cosas queden derechas, pero con una tabla pase una línea, para ver donde colocaría los pies de amigo.
Aquí entre en acción con el taladro que me presto el vecino, con sus mechas, yo también tengo las mías, me lleve los ramplug verdes y los tornillos que son para este tipo de ramplug. Soportando el ruido, el calor y el sol que se metía pero me interesaba poner la repisa. Que ya una vez que la coloque y para evitar que la misma se moviera mucho, con unos tornillos pequeños que sirven para madera también presione de abajo hacia arriba por debajo la tabla y quedo fija, ahí coloque los detergentes, jabones cosas que no sean también tan pesadas.
Entre una cosa y la otra reposaba. Almorcé y reposé de nuevo.
Veía que me hacia falta como un perchero en el lavandero para colgar algunas cosas que a veces llevamos y por lo rápido lo colocábamos sobre la lavadora, pero esta vez no quería nada sobre la lavadora.
Como hay una cama de madera que era de mi hija la tengo en venta, pero con una de las tablas que van abajo, me dio la idea para el perchero, este lo iba a colocar en la pared frente a la repisa y batea. Fui a la mesón de la cocina a ver con que contaba de tornillos y ramplug, encontré unos cáncamos perfectos para los extremos, con doble función fijar la tabla a la pared con los ramplug y para poner ganchos de ropa en la argolla. Luego busque unos clavos grandes y los coloque a cierta distancia uno de otros que sería para colgar ahí lo que se llevara como toallas, ropa, otros.
Ya falta poco. Mientras reposaba iba viendo lo que faltaba, busque la lavadora con mi hija, quedo perfecta en su espacio.
En la esquina coloque una mesita que antes tenia algo provisional para colocar cosas grandes como tenia ahí unas cobijas.
Sobre la vieja lavadora había como una zapatera de tela, la coloque en la pared del fondo y me sirvió para colocar unas cholas y otras cosas.
Debajo de la batea coloque de nuevo un banquito que estaba ahí con un bol que aun ando buscando como quitarle las manchas que tiene, eso se lo pedi a una vecina que lo tenia en abandono, no sabia lo que tenia yo si, se lo pedi, es un bol de acero inolvidable de batir tortas de Electrolux.
Recuerdan que dije el sol entra en la tarde, pues solucione con una persiana en madera que era de mi hermana que una vez me dio, la tenia un tiempo en la ventana del comedor pero vi que ahí no me cuadraba, la tenia un tiempo guardada, dije listo la ideal para el lavandero.
Busque un alambrón que recogí que dejaron unas personas que repararon algo, para algo me servirá y pues me sirvió para hacer los colgaderos de la persiana, los pique con un alicate, coloque en la viga del techo y luego de la persiana en total fueron 4 colgantes, mas estabilidad y lista la persiana.
Me agarro la noche, dejé hasta aquí, pero al día siguiente seguí.
Ya al día siguiente con la claridad de la mañana, hice fue la conexión del agua para la lavadora, compre como decir el adaptador de mangueras al tubo que es lo rojo, la de metal esta mas costosa y no me alcanzaba el dinero, mas un metro de manguera y listo ya la lavadora se llena directo de la tubería pero igual hay que estar pendiente porque es una lavadora manual, que al llenarse debemos cerrar la llave del agua.
Y así quedo mi lavandero, me encanto como quedo, ahora si puedo lavar a veces de tarde porque la persiana no pasa el sol.

I’m like a little ant who can’t sit still—if I can do things on my own, I do them, as far as I’m able and know how. I’m grateful that by watching one of my brothers use a drill, I learned how to use it, just like other tools.
This weekend, I got busy doing some small repairs around the house, and it gave me a great sense of satisfaction to have done them all by myself.
First, I organized the laundry room.
This was the biggest project I’ve ever tackled, and it took me the longest, but I didn’t leave that space until I finished it—what you start, you have to finish.
Materials and tools used:
Recycled boards. Drill and drill bits. Hacksaw. Hammer. Steel nails. Green Ramplug. Various screws. Blinds. Metal legs. Water pipe wrench. Pipe wrench. Ruler, pencil, knife, scissors. Sandpaper.
And a few others I don’t remember… but if I had them and needed them, I used them; otherwise, I’d ask my neighbors.
The laundry room is small, but with the rearrangements it looks more spacious. Since we just received a twin-tub washing machine as a gift, we had to keep taking this one out and putting it back in all the time, which is a pain. In the laundry room was the other washing machine I bought many years ago, but its electrical components are damaged—the mice chewed through them. I’m not sure if it can be plugged in directly, but if I knew, I would have fixed it a long time ago.
First, I took everything out of the sink, then gave the floor a good scrub, because sometimes the morrocoy turtles get in there and leave it dirty.
I have two water pipe wrenches: one for the sink and another that was for the washing machine connection. The latter was broken, so I bought a new one. I gathered the tools—the pipe wrenches—to make the replacement, but I was missing one, so I borrowed it from my neighbor.
Use one wrench to tighten and the other to loosen the faulty valve. Once you’ve removed it, also remove all the old Teflon tape to install the new one. Install the new valve and, using the socket wrenches, I tightened it, but I saw that it was leaking, so I tightened it some more—a little worried that the PVC pipe might break—but thank God nothing happened. That’s it—the replacement is done.
Now it was time to place a board on top to serve as a shelf. For this, I looked for a board to reuse from an old display case that belonged to my son—it had been damaged by water seepage. I threw away what was unusable and reused some of the boards; one had a damaged section, which I cut off with a jigsaw. I went back to the lumberyard, this time with the adjustable legs I’d bought, to see where I’d place them. I don’t have a level to measure with, but thank God I have a good eye for making sure things are straight. Still, I used a board to mark a line to see where I’d position the adjustable legs.
So I got to work with the drill my neighbor lent me, along with his drill bits—I have my own, too—and I brought the green wall plugs and the screws designed for this type of plug. I put up with the noise, the heat, and the sun beating down, but I was determined to put up the shelf. Once I had it in place, to keep it from moving around too much, I used some small wood screws to secure it from the bottom up, pressing from below the board, and it stayed in place. Then I put the detergents, soaps, and other items that aren’t too heavy on it.
I took a break here and there. I had lunch and rested again.
I realized I needed something like a coat rack in the laundry room to hang some of the things we sometimes bring in—things we’d usually just toss on top of the washing machine in a hurry—but this time I didn’t want anything on top of the washing machine.
Since there’s a wooden bed that used to belong to my daughter—which I’m selling—one of the bottom slats gave me the idea for the coat rack. I was going to mount it on the wall in front of the shelf and the drying rack. I went to the kitchen counter to see what screws and wall anchors I had on hand. I found some perfect eye bolts for the ends—they serve a dual purpose: securing the board to the wall with the wall anchors and allowing me to attach clothes hooks to the rings. Then I looked for some large nails and placed them at regular intervals so I could hang things like towels, clothes, and other items there.
It’s almost done. While I was resting, I took a look at what was left to do. My daughter and I found the washing machine, and it fits perfectly in its spot.
In the corner, I placed a small table where I used to have a makeshift spot for storing large items, like the blankets I kept there.
There was something like a fabric shoe rack on top of the old washing machine; I placed it against the back wall, and it came in handy for storing some flip-flops and other things.
Underneath the tray, I placed a small stool that was already there, along with a bowl—I’m still trying to figure out how to get the stains off it. I asked a neighbor for it; she had it sitting unused. She didn’t know what I had, but I asked her for it anyway. It’s an unforgettable Electrolux stainless steel mixing bowl for making cakes.
