The Things a Mind Should Never Hear
At 9:17 on a cold Tuesday morning, Adam stood in front of Federal Street Bank with his eyes closed.
One hand rested against the glass.
He wasn't trying to open the door.
Three seconds later, the electronic lock clicked.
The door opened by itself.
The security guard watching the cameras leaned closer to the screen.
Adam stepped inside.
And immediately wished he hadn't.

Six months ago, people like Adam didn't exist.
Then something changed.
A few ordinary humans began experiencing strange neurological activity. They didn't grow stronger or learn to fly.
They simply began hearing something no human should hear.
Intentions.
Adam could hear what people wanted before they said it.
Behind the bank counter, a woman smiled.
"Good morning. How can I help you?"
But Adam heard something completely different.
«Please don't let them cut my salary.»
Then:
«My son needs another doctor's appointment.»
Adam looked away.
That was the curse.
He didn't hear people's words.
He heard the things they desperately tried to keep private.

Then a man entered the bank.
Grey jacket.
Shaking hands.
His right hand disappeared into his pocket.
Adam suddenly froze.
A pulse struck his mind.
«Gun.»
Another followed.
«Wait for the alarm.»
Adam spoke before thinking.
"Don't put your hand in your right pocket."
The man stopped.
Nobody moved.
Slowly, he removed his hand.
The police arrived minutes later.
No one was injured.
The newspapers called Adam a hero.
Adam knew better.
He hadn't seen the weapon.
He had heard the intention behind it.
